The Story Behind These Designs

Each coat is a unique creation based on the design and colors of the foundational sweaters. I scour Goodwill stores for sweaters, launder or dry clean each garment, then begin to experiment: Replace the sleeves, create a gored skirt, add applique shapes and hand-stitched embroidery.

Each garment takes about 25-30 hours of work. I begin with 3-5 sweaters, decide on the foundational garment, then begin creating an initial, pinned mock-up. Sometimes the first version works. Sometimes the fifth version works !

I drape pieces on a mannequin, then begin a meticulous cutting process, creating strips for the skirt, connecting contrasting arms. I sew the garment together with a sewing machine and serger, create a zipped or button closure, then finish off the design with surface embroidery and final hand sewing. Each garment takes 20-35 hours to make.

You can also bring your old sweaters and we can design a custom-made garment.

Custom-made garments range from $150 for a vest to $400-$450 for a custom made coat.
